Saints Row Design Director Has Been Asked To Make A Pitch For A ‘Saints Row Reboot’ To Embracer Group

Chris Stockman, who served as design director on the original Saints Row, has given hope that the franchise may be resurrected at some point down the line, as he’s been asked to pitch a reboot to Embracer Group, the current owner of the IP.

While he didn’t go into much detail, he confirms that any new Saints Row game would not be a VR title.

Guys and Gals, I have hopeful news! I’ve been asked to create a pitch for a Saints Row reboot! I can’t say anything more than that but my dreams for this game just became a little more than just dreams! Update: it won’t be a VR game. I’m really going back to my roots!

Stockman was then contacted by PCGamesN where he revealed he wants the franchise to go back to its roots with a potential new entry.

I want to bring the Saints Row franchise back to its roots. As you know I directed Saints Row 1 and I feel the series has strayed way too far away from that. I completely understand why they went that way but in the end they kind of painted themselves into a corner they couldn’t get out of.

He added that “there is interest” and “a pitch has been requested,” but at this time is still in the process of “attempting to get the band back together. If this works this will be an amazing story. I hope it works.”

Stockman had previously touched on a Saints Row prequel during an interview with eSports Insider last month, where he talked about setting the game in the 70s. He also fired off some criticism on the 2022 Saints Row, which was a reboot of the franchise that didn’t exactly set the world on fire and series developer Volition was shuttered a year later by Embracer.

During that same interview, Stockman weigh in on the pricing debate for Rockstar’s upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI, suggesting it should be priced at $100 as it’s the only series that can get away with such a price tag.

The original Saints Row launched for the Xbox 360 in 2006 and was quite a gritty, down-to-earth gangster romp despite the franchise later become known for its irreverence in later sequels.
