Saints Row: The Third ships 3.8 million

THQ boss Brian Farrell has confirmed that Saints Row: The Third has shipped 3.8 million units worldwide since its launch in November 2011.

The news comes following the industry giant’s decision to adopt a more streamlined business strategy, focusing only on its strongest franchises and future digital output.

“THQ will be a more streamlined organization focused only on our strongest franchises,” said Farrell. “The success of Saints Row: The Third is an example of what our revised strategy and focus can achieve."

Farrell went on to add that the firm expects Saints Row: The Third to ship in the region of five to six million copies in its lifetime. Furthermore, the game’s digital content has resulted in THQ’s highest digital revenue for a console title in the company’s history.

Key software is currently being worked on at THQ’s five internal studios, including UFC Undisputed 3, Darksiders II, Company of Heroes, inSANE, Saints Row, Warhammer 40,000 and a new project from former Assassin’s Creed creative head, Patrice Désilets.

"THQ’s goal is to optimize its portfolio for the current generation of consoles and to establish new franchises on the next generation of game devices,” added Farrell.

THQ will hold its third quarter 2012 conference call on February 2.
