Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has filed a series of patents fuelling yet more speculation that the platform holder’s working on a successor to the PlayStation Portable with “touch control” functionality.
According to the chaps at Edge magazine, the hardware manufacturer filed several patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office back in October, with one mentioning a "handheld device with two-finger touch triggered selection."
Furthermore, a statement linking all documents states that the device will feature two screens, "Comprising: a case having first and second major surfaces; a visual display disposed on the first major surface; a touch interface disposed on at least one of the major surfaces".
PSP2 has yet to be formally announced by Sony, though the general consensus among gamers and industry folk alike is that the handheld is very much in the works — especially after Electronic Arts outright confirmed that the publisher has had access to the device.
The handheld is expected to be revealed at E3 2011.
