Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announced plans in a recent interview to merge two of their best development teams into one entity. Studio Liverpool, famous for their WipEout HD release, and Evolution Studios of MotorStorm fame will be living under one roof in the not so distant future.
According to SCEE’s Michael Denny, the two teams already share management structures and have been using combined resources for a short time. Considering the location of both companies, it makes sense for them to come together under one roof in order to develop upcoming titles while saving on a lot of financial aspects.
For those concerned as to whether this will result in less innovation or new IPs, you have nothing to be concerned about. Both development teams are still in charge of their own concept discussions and encouraged to take advantage of new opportunities and coming up with new IPs.
Considering the history that these two share apart, it’s going to be interesting to see what they come up with as a whole.
