Sea Of Stars developer Sabotage Studio has just pushed a free update for its turn-based adventure that includes some big changes, like 3-player co-op, both locally and online, a new combat system and more.
The Dawn Of Equinox update is now live for players on all platforms, PS5 and PS4 included, and is a free update not to be confused with paid DLC that is coming for the game next year.
Sabotage Studio’s creative director Thierry Boulanger dives into what’s new in the update on a PlayStation Blog post, which leads off with a trailer you can check out below.
Boulanger also explains that the studio took the time to “revamp the game’s first hour by adding combat animations for the kid versions of our heroes. This allowed us to ditch the flashback structure by having action directly in the intro, something we sadly had to give up on during production.”
Regarding the combat changes, what Boulanger calls “Combat 2.0” essentially brings 2 new major elements: Sticky Combo Points and Mystery Locks.
In the case of the former, all Sticky Combo Points means is that now, when you finish a battle with unused combo points, those don’t go away, and are available to you when you start your next battle.
Mystery Locks add a new layer of combat that, like Sticky Combo Points, encourages players to try new strategies against enemies by hiding the damage types required for each enemy lock, instead of them being visible at all times.
There’s also a new animated cutscene for players to enjoy, as part of the studio revamping the earlier sections of the game.
Boulanger adds that now that this update is out for players to enjoy, the team’s full focus is shifting to the Throes of the Watchmaker DLC, which will arrive sometime in Spring 2025.
