Sega announces Captain America: Super Soldier

Captain America: Super Soldier is heading to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS and PSP. The new game, from publisher Sega, is in development by Next Level Games.

The game focuses on Marvel Entertainment’s Captain America and his quest to smite Red Skull and his army. The third-person action adventure title is set in the dark days of World War II. Players will wield Captain America’s shield, and engage in free-flow combat and acrobatic platforming. Captain America, the first avenger, must defeat the evil scientist Arnim Zola and his wartime experiments. You’ll get powerful melee combos and shield attacks to devastate your enemies.

His shield will be used in several ways: taking out multiple enemies at once, deflecting incoming fire back at enemies, solving puzzles, and scaling walls. To put it lightly, Next Level Games is focusing heavily on Captain America’s shield.

The story is being written by Christos Gage so that it is set “within the same world as the upcoming movie of the same name,” but the game will have its own unique twists.

“Videogame players the world over can now become Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Captain America,” said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America. “Captain America: Super Soldier puts players in the boots of the ultimate Super-Soldier, wielding Captain America’s legendary shield. Working closely with Marvel ensures we’re delivering the caliber product that gamers and comic fans deserve and it’s a partnership we’re proud of here at SEGA.”
