Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time, two classic SEGA adventure games from the days of the Genesis (aka Mega Drive), are next in line to receive the remastering treatment, creator Ed Annunziata has announced.
Speaking during an interview with Xbox Wire, Annunziata confirmed that he will begin developing a new Ecco the Dolphin game once those remasters are complete, but wasn’t able to share any further information.
Me and the entire original team are going to remaster the original Ecco the Dolphin and [Ecco: The] Tides of Time games. Then we will make a new, third game with contemporary play and GPU sensibilities. Stay tuned to eccothedolphin.com.

The news follows trademark filings for Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco being registered by SEGA in December 2024, which indicated that something was on the cards for the franchise.
The original Ecco the Dolphin was released for the Mega Drive/Genesis back in December 1992 in the US and arrived in the EU and Japan the following year. Ecco: The Ties of Time followed in November 1994 for the Mega Drive/Genesis and also came to the Game Gear during the same month, while a SEGA CD version launched in 1995.
