SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio used EVO 2026’s final day to stage its announcement of a new character for Virtua Fighter Crossroads, with Bakunawa Killer confirmed to play a major role in game’s story as well as featuring in Versus Mode.

A series of attacks on martial artists has shaken the very streets of Vilasapara, the turbulent island city where the game’s story is set. The latest trailer depicts the mysterious man behind the attacks, the “Bakunawa Killer,” as well as Pai and Cielo, who are on the trail of his true identity.

Virtua Fighter Crossroads is pencilled in for a 2027 for unannounced platforms, and is developed by RGG Studio, the same team that designed the Yakuza/Like A Dragon franchise. The game is billed as a master reinvention of the venerable fighting game series, with a single-player story included for the first time alongside revamped character designs that feature highly-detailed real-time damage during fights. SEGA has confirmed that Akira, Cielo, Stella, Pai and Wolf will appear in Virtua Fighter Crossroads.
