Gamescom 2024 has come and gone, which also means we’ve reached the end of the summer season of showcases and announcements, with the Fall just ahead of us.
While there’s no singular third-party showcase that brings together all the big publishers until The Game Awards in December, both September and October offer huge potential for showcases, particularly from Nintendo and PlayStation.
There’s been a State Of Play event every September for the last two years, and before that it was in October. There’s been a general schedule to these kinds of things, so it’s not surprising that the regular insiders like Jeff Grubb are beginning to ring the bells that another is coming our way for September 2024.
“There is probably going to be a State of Play, a PlayStation State of Play – not a Showcase – a State of Play, by the end of September,” Grubb said on his Game Mess Mornings Show.
He pinned that it’ll happen later in the month, so no need to expect it next week. Grubb also pointed out that it’s potentially where we’ll finally get to see the PS5 Pro, which was also reportedly a bit of an open secret during this years Gamescom.
That’s just speculation on his part, and he’s not wrong to point it out – though part of the pattern PSU has noticed also follows that hardware is only revealed during Showcase events.
How Sony adjusts and distinguishes the way it sells its hardware can of course change, so it shouldn’t be counted out. But it wouldn’t be the worst bet at all to look for a State Of Play coming sometime soon.
