Shenmue 3 on track to become Kickstarter’s highest funded video game

Shenmue III‘s Kickstarter has shot past the $5 million mark and is now on track to become the highest funded project on the crowdfunding initiative.

The highly anticipated action-adventure title will need to hit $5.6 million to achieve that particular goal, although $6 million will ensure the Ys Net-developed project will implement a more detailed battle system.

At the time of writing, the Kickstarter project has 40 hours to go, so it remains to be seen whether or not it will hit either milestone.

Ys Net confirmed that it will host a special ‘final hours’ Twitch broadcast this weekend, which will feature creator Yu Suzuki alongside Shenmue III team members Hiroaki Takeuchi and Kenji Miyawaki. The event will take place at 12.00 am BST on July 18.

Shenmue III is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 and PC in December 2017. The game hit its $2 million target in less than 24 hours, and became the fastest video game project on Kickstarter to hit the $1 million mark.
