There are currently no plans to showcase Shenmue 3 at E3 2016, the game’s co-producer has said.
Speaking at the recent Monaco Anime Games International Conference (via GameBlog), Cedric Biscay revealed that it’ll be a while before we get to see the game in action, and as such isn’t likely to rear its head at the Los Angeles-based games convention in June.
Pleasingly, he hinted that there could be more games in the cult franchise, providing Shenmue 3 achieves moderate success.
In addition, series creator Yu Suzuki confirmed that Shenmue 3’s storyline is nearing completion at 95 percent, and that the game itself will continue right after the conclusion of Shenmue II, encompassing chapters 5 & 6 of the ambitious, revenge-driven saga.
Suzuki-san added that he’s keen on incorporate more QTEs mixed with elements of FREE Battle, although isn’t sure if he will have time to implement them or not. The former SEGA developer also said that the franchise won’t likely require too many more games to tell the complete story, despite Shenmue being conceived as 11 chapters in total.
Shenmue 3 is due out on PlayStation 4 and PC in December 2017.
