Silent Hill 2 Remake Dev Explains Why It Opted For An Over-The-Shoulder Camera

Silent Hill 2 Remake Creative Director and Lead Designer, Mateusz Lenart, has explained decision to implement an over-the-shoulder camera Bloober Team‘s version of the classic psychological horror title.

The original version of Silent Hill 2 used 3D environments with fixed camera angles, similar to Resident Evil CODE: Veronica. Instead, the remake will employ a camera similar to Resident Evil 4, which was heavily influential in many third-person shooters over the years.

We want Silent Hill 2 to make the same strong impression today that the original game did 21 years ago. While we want to achieve the same end result, players’ expectations evolve over time, and certain things need to be modernized to have the same or similar effect. For example, that’s why we went with the over-the-shoulder camera, so we can immerse players into the game world as much as possible.
