The creator behind the upcoming pant-soiling horror title, Silent Hills, has suggested that the hotly anticipated project may not see the light of day until 2016.
Hideo Kojima told WhatifGaming.com (via NeoGAF) that the development team hasn’t yet decided whether or not the game—which stars The Walking Dead’s crossbow-wielding Norman Reedus—will be permanently third or first-person.
More intriguingly, he also hinted at the possibility of the game going open-world, marking the first time the venerable franchise has done so. 2012’s Silent Hill: Downpour introduced side quests and larger environments, yes, but wasn’t strictly an open-world affair.
“We’re not sure yet,” Kojima-san said on camera perspective. “Development is cycling between either allowing players to choose to play the whole game in first-person or third-person, or keeping it fixed third-person and having some areas be first-person only. Either way, we want to do something with first-person. The game will not be out more than likely until 2016, lots of time left.”
“All I can say is [that the] Fox Engine is meant for open world,” he added. “I cannot discuss more on the game design itself in detail yet."
The Metal Gear mastermind recently said that Silent Hills will ‘scare the sh!t’ gamers, and will see a return to ‘pure horror.’
