The developer behind Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City has announced series of ‘temporary’ layoffs.
Slant Six Games confirmed the move in a statement issued to GI.biz:
"This necessary measure has been taken to reduce the size of our team and to decrease interim operating costs while we continue to negotiate new business. Temporary layoffs provide us with a time period to keep everyone’s employment position open with full benefits. The intention is to reinstate all of the people affected when new projects or funding has been secured."
While the company would not divulge how many employees have been affected by the layoffs, it has been suggested there were 60 individuals on the team prior to the losses.
It’s also worth pointing out that Slant Six has had a rocky time of it in the last three years or so. Back in 2010, the studio let go of a number of staff following the release of SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3 for PlayStation Portable. Fortunately, those who were laid off were later rehired.
June 2012 saw yet more layoffs following the launch of critically-panned zombie shooter Operation Raccoon City. At this point, one quarter of its 96-strong team were laid off, with only “a portion” of them later rehired.
Slant Six Games’ next project is the iOS, Android and Kindle Fire title Max’s Pirate Planet.
