Following last week’s reports that actor Simu Liu is hoping to get a Sleeping Dogs movie off the ground, IGN revealed that it’s heard whispers that not only is the film in production, but Liu will take the leading role as Wei Shen.
Citing a source close to the project, IGN states that the Sleeping Dogs film is more than just a pipe dream, and is actually in development to some extent. Liu is apparently set to act as producer while also playing the role of protagonist Shen, and Story Kitchen is leading the Sleeping Dogs film having previous experience on the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog to Netflix’s Tomb Raider series.
Last week, Liu, best known for his role as the titular character in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, said that he’s hoping to get the Sleeping Dog movie into production, and the dream is to also see a full sequel to the 2012 video game. Nothing official has been revealed by Square Enix yet on the movie getting the green light, so file this under rumour for the time being.

Sleeping Dogs was released for PS3, PC and Xbox 360 back in 2012 and while a sequel was in the early stages of pre-production by the following year, it was ultimately cancelled in late 2013.
