Yesterday it was revealed that Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Simu Liu is hoping to bring Sleeping Dogs back to the big screen, and he’s also reignited hope that we may yet see a sequel to the game someday.
As previously reported, Liu said that his dream is to get Sleeping Dogs adapted into a movie, something which Donnie Yen had been trying to do for years before announcing recently that the project was no longer happening. Now, Liu admitted his ambitious go beyond just a big screen version of Sleeping Dogs, but a new video game. Who knows if it will ever happen, but it’s at least good to see that a sequel is being talked about more than a decade after the original game came out.
So few film projects make it from pitch phase to greenlight. Pitching execs who don’t understand the game has been tiring. Everyone’s overwhelming love of Sleeping Dogs here has really given us life! First a movie, then a sequel game for everyone… that’s always been the dream.

Developed by United Front Games, Sleeping Dogs was released for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 in 2012, and takes place in contemporary Hong Kong where players follow undercover cop Wei Shen as he infiltrates a notorious Triad organisation. The game moved over 1.5 million units by September 2012, and while a sequel was being worked on in early 2013, it was eventually scrapped later that year before entering full production.
