Sonic Team boss Takashi Iizuka has revealed that it’s very unlikely the Blur Blur will be kissing any more humans in the future, referring the cringe-worthy scene in the notoriously rubbish Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).
In case you didn’t play that game, there’s a scene where Princess Elise the Third, who is a human character, uses the power of the Chaos Emerald to bring Sonic back from the brink of death, and ends up kissing him in the process. And yes, it’s as bad as it sounds.
Fortunately, Iizuka-san indicated this won’t ever happen again. Speaking with Axios regarding the main rules of the Sonic franchise, he touched on Sonic 2006’s notorious scene, saying “I don’t think we’ll be doing that again.”
Regarding the other rules, the first one is obviously “speed,” as all the games are built around the Blue Blur’s ability to run at lighting fast speed. The second one is that he can’t swim. This is true even in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, as spiky speedster had to utilise a flotation device to compete in swimming events.

The next main instalment in the series, Sonic Frontiers, is slated for release in holiday 2022 for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
Unfortunately, the game has been dogged by negativity lately due to the poor response to its gameplay trailers, although despite fans calling for a delay, SEGA is determined not to postponed Sonic’s next outing.
