Sony Bend Studio Is Reportedly Laying Off 30% Of Its Team Following Live Service Game Cancellation

Bloomberg is reporting that Sony Bend Studio is laying off 30% of its team in wake of its live service game being cancelled earlier this year.

Sony announced in January that it had scrapped two live service titles in development at Bluepoint Games and Sony Bend Studio, although in the case of the latter, it wasn’t revealed exactly what the game would have been. Both title were part of Sony’s aggressive push into live service territory that it laid out back in 2022, which would have seen 12 live service games released by the end of the fiscal year in March 2026.

Sony Bend Studio hasn’t shipped a game since 2019’s Days Gone, a game which was received fairly warmly by critics and sold well enough but ultimately didn’t receive a sequel as Sony didn’t give it the green light. Days Gone was remastered for the PS5 earlier this year with all the usual bells and whistles you’d expect for modern formats.
