Sony boasting strong numbers for 3D support, PS3 leading the way in 2011

J.T. Tidwell, Sony’s corporate communications manager, posted some exciting statistics about the PlayStation 3’s 3D support today on the Official PlayStation Blog. As one of the main platforms to push 3D gaming and high definition 3D movies, the PS3 is looking to take the 3D crown, leaving competitors in line with HD-DVD.

According to Tidwell, nearly 30 Stereoscopic 3D PS3 titles will be available by the end of 2011 including titles such as Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception, Socom 4: U.S. Navy Seals, and Crysis 2. Also, the PS3 leads the competition by being the only console to support 3D Blu-ray movies and 3D online content. Apparently 3D users thought the latest Sports Illustrated Swim Suit 2011: The 3D Experience was so entertaining, it received over 83,000 downloads within the first week.

The PlayStation 3 has helped drive us into the Blu-ray and 1080p resolution era, it only makes sense that it will carry us into the new 3D generation.
