Sony Confirms PS Plus Essential Price Increase For New Memberships

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it is increasing the price of PlayStation Plus Essential for new memberships, which will come into effect tomorrow (May 20).

Citing “ongoing market conditions,” the format holder revealed that both the one-month and three-month subscription tiers are increasing in price, although the year membership option is seemingly staying the same. Those of you who allow your current PS Plus Essential membership expire will be required to start paying the new price, which can be seen below.

  • PS Plus Essential One Month Membership — £7.99 / $10.99 / €9.99
  • PS Plus Essential Three Month Membership — £21.99 / $27.99 / €27.99

Here’s full statement from the PlayStation manufacturer on X:

Starting May 20, PlayStation Plus prices for new customers will increase in select regions. Due to ongoing market conditions, prices will start at $10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP for 1-month subscriptions and $27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP for 3-month subscriptions. This price change does not apply to current subscribers (except in Turkey and India) unless the existing subscription changes or lapses.

PS Plus Essential is the cheapest of the three subscription tiers for Sony’s flagship online service, and gives users free PS5 and PS4 games every month, although as of January the number of PS4 titles given away is being scaled down.
