Sony details Firmware 2.70

Sony Computer Entertainment America has officially announced the Firmware 2.70 update for PlayStation 3, revealing new features such as ‘Text Chat’ and other improvements to the PlayStation Network.

Video Walkthrough of Firmware 2.70:

With Text Chat, PSN users can chat with their friends using a wireless keypad, on-screen keyboard, or compatible keyboard peripherals. Chat rooms can host up to 16 users, with a single user able to participate in up to three chat rooms at any given time. Gamers can access the Text Chat features while playing PS3 titles.

In addition to the Text Chat feature, Sony has improved friends lists, allowing users to sort through friends by online status. Also, users can now send up to 3MB size file attachments to friends through messages.

Lastly, Sony has improved the video delivery service on the PlayStation Store. Video files purchased from PlayStation Store can be backed up to an external storage device and then restored to a PS3 system’s internal hard drive for playback.

Firmware 2.70 is already live, as is normal with these firmware announcements.
