Following today’s announcement that Gran Turismo 6 will be launching on the PlayStation 3 later this year, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi spoke about a potential release on the PlayStation 4.
When speaking to IGN about GT6 on PS4, Yamauchi said, "We actually do have a PlayStation 4 version in mind, but for this holiday season, we thought it would be best for users to release on PS3 for now." He later added, "I thought the best scenario would be to have the game come out, then to have new scenarios, new DLC and other updates. Once the players have thoroughly played out the system, if the PlayStation 4 version came out naturally, as part of that process, I think that would be the best scenario."
Yamauchi also said a save transfer system will "probably" happen if GT6 is released on the PS4 so that anyone with the PS3 version can continue their progress on the new console. However, I wouldn’t expect GT6 to release on PS4 this year simply because of DriveClub from Evolution Studios which is likely to be a PS4 launch title. Sony releasing both close together will hurt both games and, with what Yamuchi has said, GT6 for PS4 most likely will see a release in 2014.
