Sony in the "final stages" of PSN restoration

Sony today announced its global network and security teams began the final stages of internal testing of the new network system, what the company describes as “an important step towards restoring PlayStation Network and Qriocity services.”

This is the latest official announcement we’ve heard on the status of the new system, but Sony did not provide specific dates for service restoration. A representative for Sony Computer Entertainment America said on the PlayStation Blog that “we’ve been working around the clock to rebuild the network and enhance protections of your personal data. It’s our top priority to ensure your data is safe when you begin using the services again.”

As Sony begins the final stage of internal testing, millions of PSN users around the world continue to wait to play their favorite games online, synch their Trophies, chat with friends, and change their passwords. While the company is under a microscope from the media, government agencies, and analysts, Sony will ultimately have to answer the questions of millions of patient gamers.

We will, of course, keep you updated on any breaking news related to the PSN outages, but perhaps this bit of news will reassure an enormous community of anxious PlayStation fans that, yes, your network is coming back soon. Stay tuned.
