Naoki Hamaguchi, the director on Final Fantasy VII Revelation, has revealed during an interview with IGN that Chadley is going to play a more important role in the story for the upcoming sequel, but acknowledged fans are less than thrilled about the character.
“I am very much aware of the reaction some fans in the community had to Chadley,” said Hamaguchi-san, admitting the character has yet prove himself “a particularly important character to the story. I am very much aware of that opinion.”
“In the previous game, in Rebirth, [Chadley’s] role is such [that he was] kind of a guide, a tutorial, to lead people into all of the side content,” he added, “but his role has actually changed for Revelation.” Hamaguchi explained the game will include “some scenes where he plays a very integral part, a strong role, in the main story itself.”
Chadley’s inclusion shouldn’t be a surprise to fans considering Hamaguchi confirmed in May this year that the character would be returning for the third chapter in the Final Fantasy VII Remake project.
“I can’t tell you right now whether he does become more powerful than Sephiroth or not,” Hamaguchi said in response to IGN’s humorous question, “but you’re going to have to see in the game. And I hope you look forward to finding out.”
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is pencilled in for release on PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S in Spring 2027. Square Enix recently debuted a new trailer for the game during GamesCom ONL, which highlights the deadly WEAPONS; guardians of the planet that would manifest in times of trouble.
