There are no plans for a wireless version of the PlayStation 4’s upcoming Project Morpheus headset, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) boss, Shuhei Yoshida, has confirmed.
Speaking with GameSpot, Yoshida-san said that the virtual reality device requires a speed that only a wired connection can provide in regards to sending 1080p experiences at 120Hz.
The executive also said that trying to attract major publishers to take an interest in VR has been one of Sony’s biggest challenges thus far for Project Morpheus.
“Large publishers tend to wait until there’s enough of an install base," he explained. Yoshida also listed making comfortable VR experiences that are enjoyable as a challenge, saying "It’s so easy to create bad experiences that make people sick,” he said.
Project Morpheus is scheduled to ship at some point in the first half of 2016, with Sony aiming for a low price point for the device.
