Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has said the firm isn’t overly concerned by the slow uptake of 3D-compatible TVs.
Speaking with GI.biz, Simon Benson, SCEE’s dev manager, explained that adding 3D-compatiblity to a title wasn’t a substantial overhead for the console maker.
“It’s certainly not a concern for us on the game side, the major reason being it’s not like when we’re adding 3D features to a game, it’s not a significant overhead for us. It’s not like we have to justify being able to sell millions millions more games because of it, it’s just another feature of the game,” he commented.
“In terms of uptake, certainly from our side, and it’s typically the way, probably the same happened with HDTVs, they say that HDTV was primarily driven from gamers. Because obviously gamers know what they want, they want this new experience, they’re technically savvy, the fact that they can interact with it makes a lot of difference."
Sony previously revealed that it has an extensive line-up of 3D games for 2011, with no less than 30 titles supporting the tech due out this year.
So far we’ve seen games like Killzone 3 and MotorStorm: Apocalypse offer 3D compatiblity, with future titles such as Resistance 3 and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception also confirmed to take advantage of the tech.
