Sony Online Entertainment has announced a new deal with Sir Richard Branson and Deepak Chopra’s Virgin Comics to produce a MMO videogame adaptation of the popular Ramayan comic book series.
The partnership offers multi-year and worldwide distribution rights, with Virgin acting as creative consultant for the new project. The comic book itself was first released during the latter half of 2006, and utilizes a range of themes drawn from ancient Indian law, such as Karma.
Sony Online Entertainment CEO John Smedley commented, "The fact that the same creative team of young Indians that created the story will be involved in working with SOE’s game development team, is a testament to the innovative and mythic minds of these gifted Indian creators.”
"To bring all of these ideas into a game with SOE is just awesome," added Gotham Chopra, chief creative officer at Virgin Games.
Ramayan is currently scheduled for release on the PC, though an exact release date has yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
