Sony Revises Its PS5 Sales Forecast For FY23; Now Expects To Shift 21 Million Units

Sony Interactive Entertainment now expects to sell 21 million PS5s during the current financial year instead of the previously forecast 25 million units.

The format holder confirmed its revised forecast during its latest financial results overnight, where it announced that PS5 shipments had reached 54.8 million units worldwide and had moved 8.2 million during the three-month period ended December 31, 2024.

However, it has so far moved 16.4 million units for the current financial year, and as a result has lowered its forecast to 21 million. Therefore, it has until March 31, 2024 to sell an additional 4.6 million PS5s.

The fact Sony has lowered its forecast for PS5 isn’t too surprising, as it was a pretty big milestone to reach regardless of how well the console has been selling. However, 21 million is much more realistic goal, and there’s still about a month and a half left to reach that target.

Elsewhere, Sony also revealed during its financial results that it has no plans to launch any major franchise entries before March 31, 2025.
