Sony rubbishes claims of devs ditching PS Vita for 3DS

Sony has played down claims that major studios are shelving projects on PlayStation Vita in favour of 3DS, describing such chatter as ‘largely exaggerated.’

The worrying news stems from an anonymous source who told Japan’s Nikkei: "Major Japanese companies are canceling all projects intended for the Vita and are changing development to the 3DS."

In response, Sony’s senior vice president of Worldwide Studios Scott Rohde told Gamasutra: "I did not see that quote, but you see extremist quotes like that all the time.”

"I mean, obviously, there is no way anyone could stand in front of a camera and say that all developers are changing focus from one platform to another, no matter what it is."

The executive labelled the claims as "largely exaggerated," before adding: "I know many, many, many third party developers and publishers are feverishly working on Vita titles, not just for now, but for the foreseeable future."

PlayStation Vita launched in Japan last December, though after a strong launch week has failed to set the charts alight, falling below PSP’s weekly performance on a frequent basis.

The handheld is due out in North America and Europe on February 22. Check out our extensive launch coverage here.
