The managing director for Sony Computer Entertainment U.K. (SCE UK) has said that PlayStation 4 has a shot at smashing console sales records when it launches in the region this November.
Speaking with EuroGamer, Fergal Gara reiterated that pre-orders for Sony’s next-generation console are already at an all-time high — which bodes well for launch day figures.
“It’s very possible, yes” said Gara, when quizzed if the console maker anticipates record-setting launch figures. “And the pre-order levels are the highest we’ve ever seen, full stop. So pre-orders only need to convert into real sales and that happens.
“Andy House said last week that we’re holding a forecast of five million units of PS4 for the financial year. That’s 50 per cent up on the PlayStation 3 for the same time window.”
Over the weekend, industry analyst Michael Pachter predicted that PS4 sales will outpace those of the Xbox One at launch.
PS4 is scheduled to ship in the U.K. and Europe on November 29 and arrives in the U.S. on November 15.
