Sony shoots down Kaz Hirai promotion rumors

Sony has quashed reports last week that suggested Kazuo Hirai, the firm’s Executive Deputy President, is in the running to replace current Sony Corp. head honcho Sir Howard Stringer.

Speaking in a statement this week (via MCV), the hardware manufacturer confirmed that it has no plans to promote Hirai, who has been with the company for over 15 years now.

"Certain media reports were published on January 7th, 2012 regarding Sony Corporation’s executive officers’ appointments. Sony Corporation has made no announcement in this regard and nothing has been determined at this time," the statement reads.

In addition to his duties as Executive Deputy President, Hirai also concurrently serves as Representative Corporate Executive Officer and president of Sony’s Consumer Products & Services Group.
