The co-creator behind the original Xbox has encouraged Sony to enable cross-play between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players.
The former head of Microsoft Game Studios made the comments during an interview with IGN, where he praised Xbox chief Phil Spencer’s recent efforts with Xbox LIVE, which recently opened its floodgates to cross-play.
"I think he’s done a great job of fixing things – a great example is this recent thing, this opening up Xbox Live for cross-platform play,” said Fries. "I hope that Sony is going to respond."
Sony has yet to make its stance clear on this idea, although in wake of Microsoft’s move did say it is willing to talk to developers and publishers regarding the possibility of cross-platform play.
"Likewise, I’m a big fan of Shuhei Yoshida at Sony as well. He’s been a great guy, loves games and it’s good to see some of the war ramping down, more respect and cooperation between those two groups," added Fries.
"So I’m very optimistic for the future of both companies."
