Sony ‘will probably be last to announce’ next-gen console, says exec

PlayStation France boss Philippe Cardone has reportedly said that Sony will likely be “last to announce something” in regards to a next-generation console.

That’s according to a translation of an interview with Le Point Magazine (via OPM), where Cardone said Sony is under “less pressure” to announce a successor to PlayStation 3 in comparison to rival platform holders.

His comments just so happen to back up previous remarks made by Masaaki Tsuruta, CTO of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), who said PS3 would be at least seven years old before a new console emerges.

Internet rumors have previously suggested that PlayStation 4 (as well as the new Xbox) would appear at E3 in June, though Sony denied any such plans were in the pipeline.
