Sony is facing even more government scrutiny as U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder today confirmed the U.S. Justice Department has an open investigation into the theft of some 100 million customer’s account information.
According to Reuters, Holder told the Senate Judiciary Committee that “We have open investigations with regard to those hacking situations that have gotten publicity over the last few weeks, the Sony incident among them."
Earlier today Sony responded, in a roundabout way, to a probe from the U.S. House of Representatives. Sony’s boss, Kaz Hirai, received an official letter from Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-CA, which requested information about the PlayStation Network attack. The FBI is also looking into the alleged crimes, along with a host of other U.S. and government agencies from around the world.
