Square Enix’s Yoshinori Kitase has said that Final Fantasy XIII-2 won’t recycle any of the content that was axed from its predecessor.
Speaking to U.K. publication Xbox World 360 (via CVG), Kitase said that when making a game it’s common to have various ideas end up on the cutting room floor, and FFXIII is no exception in this respect.
However, as far as the sequel goes, he assured readers that FFXIII-2 has been made from scratch and won’t utilize any elements previously discarded from last year’s hit RPG.
"I think those comments have been really badly misinterpreted. The fact is that when making any game you need to come up with lots of different ideas and designs that you weigh up against each other before picking the best one. Obviously in that process a lot of ideas and designs have to be discarded," he said.
"We have never knowingly picked up these kind of ideas and recycled them. That’s not what we do. It’s natural for anyone making games to throw away ideas but the scenario of FFXIII-2 is completely newly written and has no connection to anything we didn’t use for FFXIII", explained Kitase.
FFXIII-2 is due out in the U.S. in January 2012.
