Square Enix announced during its E3 2015 press conference that the next chapter in the Star Ocean franchise, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, will be coming to PlayStation 4 in the U.S. and Europe in 2016.
The hotly anticipated JRPG was announced in April though was only confirmed for release in Japan, where it will arrive in winter 2015.
Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is targeting 60fps for the final version of the game, with the footage shown during the press conference running at 30fps.
Square Enix confirmed that the game will feature seamless events and both dynamic and traditional cut scenes to tell its story. The team is aiming to improve the JRPG experience as the genre evolves beyond the old-school Star Ocean titles.
"Set between the events of STAR OCEAN: The Second Story and STAR OCEAN: Till the End of Time, STAR OCEAN: Integrity and Faithlessness takes place centuries after humans have left Earth for the stars. On a planet in the distant Faykreed star system, the swordsman Fidel Camuze and his childhood friend Miki Sauvester set out to protect their village from being swallowed in the tides of civil unrest."
