Star Wars Battlefront adds 3 new game modes, including Heroes vs. Villains

The publisher behind Star Wars Battlefront has detailed three new game modes for the highly anticipated PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One shooter.

Following on from confirmation of Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Emperor Palpatine yesterday, Electronic Arts has revealed that players can look forward to Heroes vs. Villains, Battles, and Training Missions when Star Wars Battlefront launches in November.

Heroes vs. Villains is pretty self-explanatory. Here, players are thrust into a 6v6 battle where three hero units face off against three villains, with the remainder of the team filled out with Rebel or Imperial troopers. Players who are controlling a Hero or Villain will respawn as a regular soldier once defeated for their team, with the overall goal being to kill all hero/villain units or score the highest number of hero/villain units alive at the end of the three-round match. Players must juggle defensive and offensive tactics in what publisher Electronic Arts describes as short, intense matches.

Battles pits gamers against AI-controlled enemies or human opponents, where you’ll be able to go 1v1 against another player or two gamers can battle alongside AI troopers who will fight each other. Regardless, your overall objective is to obtain tokens dropped from defeated enemies; the first team to net 100 points wins the match. Another variant of this mode is known as Hero Battles, which follows the same guidelines albeit with Hero/Villain characters instead of regular troopers.

Finally, Training Missions will focus on bringing newcomers to the series up to speed on the basics of gameplay. Players can participate in a total of five Training Missions, plus a tutorial called Probe Droids. Each mission focuses on a specific gameplay element; for example, Beggar’s Canyon will train players on how to pilot the X-Wing and take it into combat against TIE Fighters, while another mission teaches you the Snowspeeder on Hoth. Training Missions can be played solo or with a friend via split-screen co-op.

Star Wars Battlefront is scheduled to ship for PS4, PC, and Xbox One on November 17 in the U.S. and November 20 in Europe. Check out the latest trailer here. The shooter’s beta recently wrapped up and was played by over nine million gamers, giving players a taste of Walker Assault on Hoth and Drop Zone on Sullust game modes. Shortly afterwards, DICE confirmed details on three other modes that will be launching alongside Star Wars Battlefront, as well as a $50 Season Pass.
