Star Wars Battlefront guide – Drop Zone on Sullust

Star Wars Battlefront‘s beta on PlayStation 4 is comprised of three distinct game modes: Walker Assault on Hoth, Survival on Tatooine and Drop Zone on Sullust. We’ve already given you some handy tips on how to survive the icy conditions on Hoth, as well as guides on mastering Hero units Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker and some beginner tips for those just starting out. Oh, and there’s also our collectible guide for those of you wanting an excuse to wonder around Tatooine and see the sights a bit more—just don’t venture too far off the map and succumb to one of those pesky Tusken Raiders

For our next guide, we decided to focus on Drop Zone on Sullust, a game mode that we’ve already mentioned is great for levelling up your character before tackling some of the more challenging missions the beta has to offer. So, see below for our handy tips on how to conquer Drop Zone.

Drop Zone is pretty self-explanatory; pods will drop down onto the map, and your objective is to capture them and defend the zone from invading forces. Players are split into two teams of eight. However, there are things to consider when tackling this mode, which we’ve outlined below.

1) Remember, escape pods drop stuff you’ll want to collect

Drop pods shouldn’t be abandoned as soon as you capture them or you’ve lost them to enemy forces. Each pod will cough up a few collectibles for you to take advantage of, including deployable weapons and team shields. Don’t take too long claiming your prize though; you need to be quick as they are only there on a first come, first serve basis, so anyone can pick them up. Make it a priority to be near the pod after it’s been claimed (by your team or an enemy) and take advantage of the boosts they offer.

2) Be wary of sneaky spawn points

This is more a gameplay flaw than anything, although it is definitely something you want to keep in mind. Spawn points are a little messy at present across all game modes, although in Drop Zone—where the map is considerably smaller than something like Hoth, for example—this becomes more of a problem. Enemies can spawn right behind you with brief invincibility and can easily secure a quick and easy kill, so be mindful of your enemies at all times and keep an eye on your radar. Foes can spawn where you least expect them, and most probably will—be on the lookout at all times.

3) Attacking tips

When attacking, it’s important not to linger in the place for too long. When your team is pushing the attack for pod acquisition, you should utilise your grenades, which are helpful for taking out groups of enemies. After claiming a pod, make sure you don’t stick around in case someone uses the same tactics on you; just don’t leave without claiming your boosts first, as outlined in earlier in our guide.

4) Defending tips

One of the key things to remember when defending is to avoid staying in a large group, as you’ll be susceptible to grenade attacks otherwise. The team should spread out and try and access some good vantage points where you have a good shot at approaching foes. Needless to say, the boosts that drop after capturing a pod will prove instrumental in its defence, so make sure you use them whenever possible. Keep a close eye on your radar at all times, too.

5) Jet Packs are your friend, so use them

These things are just as useful in Drop Zone as they are in any other mode, so make sure you take advantage of them as much possible. Jet Packs allow you to navigate around the map much easier, finding new vantage points and securing those pods without putting yourself needlessly in danger by walking around. After all, you are much harder to hit when in the air.
