Star Wars Battlefront’s community boss has confirmed on the PlayStation Blog that the game’s PlayStation 4 beta test will kick off on October 8 and run until October 12.
The teaser will give players an idea of what to expect from the hotly anticipated shoot-’em-up when it launches for PS4, PC and Xbox One on November 17. Gamers will have a total of three game modes to enjoy during the beta test, as detailed below.
-Walker Assault on Hoth: Fight in epic 40-player battles as a Rebel to destroy the Empire’s onslaught of AT-AT’s by calling in Y-wing bombers. Or, side with the Empire and protect your walkers while utilizing their mighty weaponry to crush the Rebel objective.
-Drop Zone on Sullust: Escape pods are crashing down and you and your team must fight to control them. With its frantic 8v8 matches, Drop Zone is sure to put your combat and strategy skills to the test.
-Survival Mission on Tatooine: Play alone or with a friend via co-op or split-screen as you battle to hold off waves of Imperial forces including AT-ST’s, TIE fighters, elite stormtroopers, and more.
In addition to the beta, budding Stormtroopers/Rebels will also be able to test drive the Star Wars Battlefront companion app. Available via StarWarsBattlefront.com, the app gives you access to Base Command, a strategic card game that can be used to earn in-game credits to unlock Star Cards, weapons and other goodies. You can also use the app to check out stats and game progression among other things.
The Star Wars Battlefront beta will require around 7GB to download to your PS4 console, and there is no need to register to take part in the teaser. Simply download the file from the PlayStation Store to get started. In terms of character progression you’ll be able to progress to level five during the beta, though even when you hit the cap you can still earn items. Sadly, any progress you make in the beta will NOT transfer to the full version of Star Wars Battlefront.
Star Wars Battlefront will not feature a single-player campaign, something which developer DICE recently shed light on. PS4 gamers will be treated to a special hardware bundle featuring a Darth Vader paint job.
