Nightdive Studios has announced that Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster will launch on February 28, 2024 for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
The original Star Wars: Dark Forces was released on February 28, 1995 for MS-DOS and arrived on PSOne in November 1996. So yes, that means the remaster is arriving exactly 29 years to the day since its original PC launch.
Nightdive Studios is giving the original a fresh coat of paint using the company’s proprietary KEX engine, which means Star Wars: Dark Forces is able to run at a silky-smooth performance of up to 4K resolution at 120 FPS. Furthermore, players can also soak up some updated lighting and atmospheric effects thanks to advanced 3D rendering capabilities, and with controls adding support for weapon wheel and rumble
In the first Star Wars first-person shooter video game, players assume the role of Kyle Katarn, a defector of the Galactic Empire turned mercenary for hire. Katarn joins the Rebel Alliance’s covert operations division tasked with infiltrating the Galactic Empire, where he discovers the secret Dark Trooper Project. The development of this powerful new series of Imperial battle droids and power-armored stormtroopers stands to strengthen the Empire’s grip on the galaxy unless Katarn and the Rebel Alliance intervene.
