Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic to be remade on PS4 & Xbox One — rumor

Having had to contend with far more bad than good in recent years, 2015 is now widely-known as the year in which Star Wars fans can triumphantly rise from their slumber and champion the much-loved space opera franchise once again.

Not only do we have the release of The Force Awakens during the Christmas period but also the DICE-developed reboot of Star Wars: Battlefront, everyone’s favorite multiplayer-heavy space experience. And now there might be even more cause for celebration as there’s rumors currently circulating that a fully-fledged remake of the Xbox classic, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, is underway.

Coming courtesy of Cinelinx – who cite no shorter than three separate sources all saying the same thing – a remake of Knights of the Old Republic is penned in for a release in the third or fourth quarter of 2016. It’s unclear whether the purported game would retain its Xbox-exclusive status but given the fact that Electronic Arts owns the license and Sony’s PlayStation 4 is still flying off the shelves at an astronomical rate you have to presume that the publisher would explore every release avenue possible.

The series hasn’t remained dormant, either, having seen an iPad release as well as an recent unexpected, yet sizeable, updated to the PC version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords, for an as-of-yet undetermined reason. It seems as though EA sees the value in the series given the resurgence of Star Wars in the public sphere.

With no way to verify Cinelinx’s sources, take the above with a sizeable pinch – or fistful if you’re so inclined – of salt. It’d be great to see the game return, mind. Watch this space.

Having launched over twelve years ago – god we’re feeling old – Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was released on Xbox, PC and Mac; a release decision that was met with contempt from the PlayStation fan base who had been clamoring for a Star Wars hit for themselves, especially after the release of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader exclusively on Nintendo’s GameCube. Luckily it was an issue that was rectified upon the release of Star Wars: Battlefront the following year.
