Star War Outlaws Creative Director Julian Gerighty and Narrative Director Navid Khavari have revealed that the upcoming sci-fi epic was not inspired by the cancelled Star Wars 1313, despite some similarities between the two games.
Speaking with IGN, the pair revealed that Star Wars Outlaws was conceived from the ground-up as its own unique experience.
No, this was really from the ground up. No, 100 percent. We don’t have access to any other space. And to be honest, the pleasure as creators is also to try and find our way and our niche and think of things with the experience and the scale that Massive and the Palm Studios can bring to it.
Star Wars 1313 was in development at LucasArts for the PS4, PC, and Xbox One, and would have focussed on bounty hunter Boba Fest during his early adulthood. One of the main settings was the underground area of Coruscant known as Level 1313, hence the game’s title.
Ubisoft Massive is currently developing Star Wars Outlaws for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and revealed recently that the game won’t be a ‘200 or 300 hour epic unfinishable RPG,’ and revealed that players will be able to work for Jabb the Hutt and even betray him.
