Street Fighter IV online lag proving tricky to conquer

Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono has detailed the challenges his team are facing to produce a smoothly-playable online experience for the retro brawler, but feels confident they can save the day.

“Obviously, lag will be a huge problem for online play,” he said. “We’re working on it. Compared to other games such as Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur, they’ve got replay functions and so forth. It’s quite difficult for 3D Street Fighter at the moment.”

“In order to prevent the lag we’re thinking about trying to balance it up at user interface level and input timing by using joystick or something like that,” he continued, somewhat cryptically. “We still haven’t got a complete plan as yet. We’re still working on it. That’s all we can say at the moment.”

He also confirmed that recent rumours scheduling a console appearance alongside the long-awaited Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li are tenuous at best, with the release an unknown entity at present.

"Development time-wise, we’ve just about managed to take on the arcade version on console," he concluded. "We’re just working on it, we still don’t know."

Hopefully they’ll have some solid information to share fairly soon.
