Guard Crush Games and Lizardcube have staple-gunned a release date to Streets of Rage 4‘s upcoming DLC, Mr. X Nightmare, which includes the new Survival Mode, confirming the expansion will launch on July 15 for $7.99 on PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
Survival mode, as you’ve probably guessed, sees players cuffing up legions of foes while earning perks as long as you can stay alive. There’s two variations of this mode available, the first being Random, which “keeps each fight unpredictable through generated runs,” and Weekly, which is a series of static gauntlets produced on a weekly basis.
With each stage completed players will earn two randomised perks to select from, allowing for stackable bonuses to give fighters an array of powerful abilities until they’ve been eliminated. You can also acquire permanent unlockable abilities for any of Streets of Rage 4’s game modes, giving you the chance to personalise your favourite brawlers.
As previously confirmed, Mr. X Nightmare features Estel Aguirre as a playable character, as well as “fully realised” playable incarnations of Max Thunder and Shiva, plus new music from Tee Lopes, who worked on Sonic Mania and League of Legends.
If that wasn’t enough, Streets of Rage 4 will be re-released physical on September 28, 2021 via Merge Games, which includes the standard version of the game plus all of the Mr. X Nightmare content.
