Astro Bot has sold 1.5 million copies worldwide since its release in September, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced during its latest financial results overnight.
The console manufacturer said that 37% of those who bought the Team Asobi-developed platforms had not previously purchased a first party game in the last two years. Yesterday saw the release of Astro Bot’s latest speedrun stage, Helium Heights, which is available to all players as a free update.

Astro Bot was critically acclaimed on its release in early September, and was the second-best selling game in the US for that month. Furthermore, it has also been claimed that Astro Bot has performed better than any other 3D platformer in the last decade outside of Super Mario.
Hermen Hulst, CEO of Studios Business Group for Sony Interactive Entertainment, said following the release of Astro Bot that the franchise remains ‘very important‘ to the company going forward.
