Speaking at the Cowen & Company Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said that the publishing giant expects a new generation of hardware at some point.
Zelnick commented, “Do I expect there will be another iteration of hardware? I do. Do I think that will be good for us? I do. If it doesn’t happen, will it be bad for us? No.”
Despite this, the executive wouldn’t be drawn into commenting on the rumored PlayStation 4 and Xbox One hardware upgrades: “Can’t comment on those rumors; does it matter? No.”
Elsewhere, Zelnick estimates that worldwide combined sales of the PS4 and Xbox One have reached 60 million units. He added that the reception to both systems has been “wonderful.”
Sony poised to announce new hardware update in the shape of PS4 Neo
Rumors of a new hardware upgrade for PS4 have been doing the rounds since the beginning of the year. Initially, it was reported that the PS4K, later dubbed Neo, will be announced prior to the release of PlayStation 4 and hit stores this holiday season.
While it was originally believed we’d see the system revealed at E3, later reports suggested a Tokyo Game Show announcement and a pre-October 2016 launch. Sony’s upgraded hardware is, however, believed to be less powerful than Microsoft’s own rumored Xbox One Scorpio.
While there are conflicting reports as to when the system will be unveiled and released, GameStop believes that we’ll definitely hear something at E3 later this month.
The PS4 was released in November 2013 and has to date sold 40 million units worldwide.
