Team Ninja’s Classic Action Series Is Back With Ninja Gaiden 4, Arriving On PS5 In Fall 2025

Team Ninja had quite the surprise for players during Xbox’s Developer Direct event today. On top of shadow-dropping Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, an Unreal Engine 5 remaster of the 2008 classic Ninja Gaiden 2, we also got the reveal of Ninja Gaiden 4.

It’s not just Team Ninja at the wheel this time though. Ninja Gaiden 4 has been in development with Team Ninja, and PlatinumGames, two studio giants of action games, working on this new installment in the Ninja Gaiden franchise. It is currently set to arrive on PS5 and other current-gen platforms sometime in Fall 2025.

Ninja Gaiden 4 features a new protagonist, Yakumo, alongside the Master Ninja, Ryu Hayabusa. The story kicks off with Yakumo, a member of the Raven Clan, entering a dystopian Tokyo.

With the husk of the Dark Dragon above the city, Tokyo has been plunged into an endless rain for years, signaling that the Dark Dragon was not entirely defeated, and peace can only be restored by it being taken down for good.

That’s Yakumo’s mission, and where we pick up the story with him. The gameplay shown during today’s event makes this upcoming entry look like it could be the most intense the series has ever been, which is really saying something when it comes to Ninja Gaiden games.

In an Xbox Wire interview, head of Team Ninja, Fumihiko Yasuda said “I want to thank fans who have patiently waited for the return of the series. Their passion was the driving force behind the development of Ninja Gaiden 4 and our collaboration with PlatinumGames.”

“I’m thrilled that we were finally able to make this announcement and hope it brings joy to our fans. We’ll continue working hard to meet your expectations. Ninja Gaiden 4 is an action game at heart, and we are looking into ways to give you opportunities to get hands-on experience, so stay tuned.”

It’s extremely exciting to see the franchise return after more than a decade. You can check out the trailer for Ninja Gaiden 4 for yourself, below.
