Tekken 8 Is Being Developed In Unreal Engine 5

Tekken 8 was revealed during the State Of Play showcase Sony held on Tuesday, and with Tokyo Game Show in full force, we’re beginning to learn more about the upcoming continuation of the series.

For example, a recent interview with Katsuhiro Harada reveals that Tekken 8 is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, a step forward for the series that has Harada excited, because in his experience the Tekken games that do well are also the ones pushing the boundaries of new hardware and technology.

And from how he talks about the projects early days, it seems like it was always destined to use the latest version of Epic’s popular engine that’s been impressing players and developers alike since it launched.

“During the PlayStation 1 days, just to have a game at that time be in polygons and make it look like a showpiece of technology, was something that really drove the audience for the game.

And we felt that after all these years, that’s something that hasn’t changed. So we really decided what we wanted to do with the graphic benchmark of the game, what the tone of manner was going to look like visually.

All of that stuff was one of the first things I think we discussed at the beginning of the project.”
