Bandai Namco Games has confirmed that it will be adding a Tekken Shop to Tekken 8 in the next title update, something which has fans divided due to the mention of the game’s ESRB rating being updated to include ‘In-Game Purchases.’ Yes, it looks like microtransactions are coming to Tekken 8.
While full details haven’t been revealed on the Tekken Shop yet, Yellow Motion, a long-time member of the Tekken community, had the following to say on its inclusion:
IMO “TEKKEN SHOP” can go either way. It could be a positive move, providing ongoing content over seasons such as legacy outfits, skins etc from previous TEKKEN titles, classic stages, and premium customization items for a reasonable price or available to unlock in-game from time to time.
Or it could be a regrettable move if it restricts demanded content behind paywalls at high prices. We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out. While I don’t think it will be near SF6 or MK1 approach, only time will show the true outcome.

Meanwhile, DJ Pooper Scooper (what a fantastic name), felt that Tekken 8 getting micro transactions isn’t too bad given the amount of content that is available in the game out of the box.
Just want to point out that if any game deserves to be able to do this, it’s Tekken 8. Shipped with a fuck ton of features that other fighting games just don’t have. I’m not a fan of micro transactions but it has a place for those games that have given a great initial product.
Tekken 8 was released on January 26, 2024 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. You can read our review here.
