The 3rd Birthday hits Japan this winter, 2011 for overseas

Square Enix has told the chaps at VG247 that PSP horror outing The 3rd Birthday will be released in Japan this winter, with a Western launch coming some time in 2011.

“The Japanese version’s going to come out in winter this year,” said producer Yoshinori Kitase, speaking via a translator at GamesCom last week.

“And we’ve already started localising the game for overseas versions. So we’re hoping to release it sometime rather soon after the Japanese release, but we can’t specify an exact time.” Quizzed as to whether or not this meant the game would arrive in the west next year, Kitase replied, “yes.”

As previously reported on PSU, Square also recently revealed that the company is looking at bringing the original Parasite Eve and its sequel to PlayStation Network at some point.

Originally conceived as a mobile phone title, The 3rd Birthday reunites players with series protagonist Aya Brea as she battles against hordes of mutant beings in and around the Manhattan area. The game utilizes a feature called Overdrive, which allows gamers to switch between team members instantaneously, as well as incorporating an over-the-shoulder perspective similar to that of Resident Evil 5 and Dead Space.
